Gourd Ahead – Make My Day

[ gourd chicken ]Well yesterday was quite a treat indeed! My family wasn’t trying to pull a fast one on me when they convinced me to meet them in Kokomo Indiana for the annual festival of the Indiana Gourd Society. Yes – gourds – those seemingly humble pseudo vegetables we tend to see around the fall of the year sitting next to the pumpkins. I arrived expecting a display of endless varieties of bird houses, and I must say it was anything but! Gourd Heads from across the nation converged upon this site for a weekend of seed swapping, music playing, and for showing off every craft imaginable that could be made from gourds. Many a craft you wouldn’t have even imagined unless the gourd fairy konked you on the head while you were sleeping. Instead of going into too much hyperbole, I shall simply instruct you to “click the chick”. Follow the gourd chicken to the Gourd Gallery for a peek at some gourd and crazy action.

    Dear Scott,

Thought of you when I heard the incredible sounds of the First Vienna Vegetable Orchestra on NPR during an otherwise uneventful evening commute. These people are amazing – they turn the vegetables into music, then into soup! So when are you joining up?

Berkeley was beckoning, and Bob and I were attracted to our friend Tamao’s conference like flies to trash. Alas, Tamao has to buckle down and finish her dissertation on nunsploitation and such
