I Want To Marry A Lighthouse Keeper

In an article discussing the dismall results of 11 state ballot initiatives to ban same sex marriage, I found the following quote of a quote to be quote-worthy:

Foreman said the outcome showed it is “profoundly wrong to put basic human rights up for a popular vote.” More than 200 years after the drafting of the U.S. Constitution, he said, “I don’t think we could win the freedoms of assembly, speech, religion or the press in most states at the ballot box — let alone desegregated schools, the freedom to marry people of another race, or access to contraception.”

In my perfect world opinions like this would be purely academic since basic freedoms such as the ability to demonstrate your love and committment to your significant other would be a given.

How long will it take for people to realize that this is just plain basic discrimination? When will it be corrected? Now these 11 states are adding a line to their state consitution saying, “Hey, come live here! We like to discriminate in our state.”

  2. Scott, did you know Jeunet has directed Audrey Tautou again? From a few choice shots in the trailer, it looks like her character wants to marry a lighthouse keeper. Hmm, I doubt it can top Amelie, but that’s not to say I won’t definitely give it a chance!
