Eat Right, Save the World

Come all ye’ eaters of flesh and purveyors of world salvation! Don’t listen to my admittedly biased opinions on vegetarianism as a more sustainable lifestyle. Instead I invite you to turn to the research (alternate link) of one British scientist, Alan Calverd. Neither "a vegetarian or an animal-rights advocate", Dr. Calverd has outlined in the latest issue of Physics World a simple plan to reduce world carbon dioxide emissions. The answer: stop eating and thus producing livestock.

Sounds good to me. Might I add that we could go a step farther by eating all our veggies raw and saving the energy and fuel that would have otherwise gone into cooking and ruining most all of that wonderful nutrition.

  1. So… are there really more livestock animals in the world than cars, factories, and humans combined? I need numbers, Scott. Hard facts. (But a couple damn lies and statistics could work in a pinch.)

My favorite environment-friendly slogan is the tried and true “Save the planet: kill yourself!”

  2. So it is possible to both eat right and doom the world? I’d like to see both.
